Terms of Service and Copyright Policy

Summary

Use chordwright to create, save, edit, publish, share, and discover musical charts. Users are responsible for the charts, lyrics, arrangements, metadata, and other content they create, upload, store, publish, or share. chordwright is not a lyrics catalog and does not provide an official copyrighted lyrics database.

Scope of These Terms

These terms apply when you access chordwright websites, editor features, account tools, public chart pages, private chart tools, library pages, request tools, comments, reports, search and discovery features, and related services. By creating an account or using chordwright, you agree to use the service in a lawful and respectful way.

Your License to Use chordwright

Subject to these terms, chordwright gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the service for creating, editing, saving, and sharing chord charts. You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer, interfere with, or misuse the service except where the law allows.

User Content

chordwright allows users to create their own custom musical charts, arrangements, chord placements, sections, metadata, lyrics, comments, requests, and related content. You are responsible for the content you create, upload, store, publish, request, comment on, report, or share.

chordwright does not claim ownership of user-created charts or user content. chordwright also does not claim ownership of lyrics included in user-created charts. Lyrics included in user-created charts may be copyrighted by third-party rights holders, and users may not own the lyrics they include.

By uploading, storing, publishing, or sharing content, you grant chordwright a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, process, reproduce, format, transmit, index, and make that content available as needed to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the service. This license is sublicensable only as needed for service operation, such as hosting, storage, search, moderation, security, and delivery providers.

You may revoke this license by deleting the content, except where continued retention is needed for backups, legal compliance, moderation, disputes, takedown processes, enforcement, fraud prevention, security, or previously shared content.

Private Charts

Users may create private charts for personal workspace use. Private charts may include chords, lyrics, arrangements, metadata, annotations, or other materials supplied by the user. chordwright does not verify that private content is owned or licensed by the user, and users remain responsible for their use of private content.

Public Charts

Users may publish charts publicly as user-generated content. Public charts may include user-supplied lyrics, chords, arrangements, metadata, sections, and other musical information. Users are responsible for what they choose to publish.

Public availability on chordwright does not mean that a chart, its lyrics, its arrangement, or its metadata is official, licensed, authorized, endorsed, verified, or approved by any artist, songwriter, publisher, label, rights holder, or third party. chordwright may remove, restrict, hide, delist, disable, or modify access to any public chart at its discretion, including in response to copyright complaints, rights-holder requests, policy violations, or legal risk.

Lyrics and Third-Party Rights

Some user-created charts may include lyrics. Those lyrics may be copyrighted by third-party rights holders. chordwright does not own those lyrics, and users may also not own those lyrics. chordwright does not represent that user-included lyrics are owned by chordwright, owned by the user, licensed by chordwright, officially authorized, or approved by any rights holder.

Chords and chord progressions, as musical building blocks, are generally not copyrightable on their own and do not by themselves belong to the intellectual property of a song or artist. Chord charts, song metadata, annotations, lyrics, melodies, recordings, artwork, and distinctive arrangements may still raise copyright concerns depending on what they include and how they are shared.

chordwright does not grant users rights to songs, recordings, lyrics, artwork, artist names, or other materials owned by third parties. You remain responsible for the content you choose to use and for getting any permission required by law.

Official vs User-Generated Charts

Unless chordwright explicitly labels a chart as official, licensed, endorsed, authorized, or verified, the chart should be understood as ordinary user-generated content. Users may not use misleading labels such as official, licensed, authorized, publisher-approved, verified, or similar phrases unless chordwright has verified and permitted that label.

Search and Discovery

chordwright may index public charts by title, artist, creator, key, tempo, difficulty, genre, instrument, arrangement type, tags, and other metadata. Search and discovery features help users find user-generated musical charts and music workflow materials. They do not imply that chordwright owns, licenses, verifies, endorses, or approves the content.

Prohibited Conduct

Do not use chordwright in ways that harm the service, other people, or rights holders.

• Do not upload or share content you do not have the right to use.
• Do not scrape, copy, import, repost, or reproduce charts, tabs, lyrics, arrangements, or other content from third-party services unless you have permission.
• Do not falsely claim ownership, authorization, licensing, approval, or official status over content.
• Do not impersonate artists, songwriters, publishers, labels, rights holders, official sources, or other users.
• Do not harass, abuse, impersonate, spam, or mislead other users.
• Do not attempt to bypass security, rate limits, access controls, moderation, or account restrictions.
• Do not use automation or scraping in a way that burdens the service or copies user content without permission.

Reporting Tools

chordwright may provide report buttons or reporting flows for public charts, comments, accounts, or other content. Reports may include copyright infringement, inaccurate attribution, harmful content, spam, abuse, impersonation, misleading official status, or other violations. chordwright may review and act on reports at its discretion.

Content Moderation

chordwright may moderate, remove, restrict, hide, delist, disable, refuse to host, or modify access to content that appears to infringe rights, violates these terms, creates legal or safety risk, is abusive, is misleading, or may harm the service or other users. chordwright may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms and may prevent republication of removed content.

chordwright may preserve records where needed for legal, safety, fraud, copyright, moderation, dispute, takedown, enforcement, or security reasons.

Copyright and DMCA

chordwright respects intellectual property rights. Rights holders may submit copyright takedown notices, and chordwright will respond to valid notices by removing or disabling access to allegedly infringing content. Users may submit counter-notices where legally appropriate.

A takedown notice should include:

• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
• Identification and location of the allegedly infringing material on chordwright.
• The complaining party's contact information.
• A statement that the complaining party has a good-faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
• A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

A counter-notice should include, where applicable:

• Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before removal.
• The user's name, address, phone number, and email address.
• A statement under penalty of perjury that the user has a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification.
• A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal court and accepting service of process from the party who submitted the takedown notice or that party's agent.
• The user's physical or electronic signature.

Repeat Infringers

chordwright may terminate or restrict accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright or repeatedly submit content that is removed for copyright reasons. chordwright may also limit features, disable public sharing, preserve relevant records, or prevent republication of removed material.

Disclaimers

chordwright does not guarantee the accuracy, legality, quality, completeness, ownership status, public domain status, or authorization status of user-generated charts. chordwright does not guarantee that lyrics included in charts are owned by the user, owned by chordwright, licensed, public domain, or authorized by any rights holder.

chordwright is not responsible for user content except as required by law. The platform does not provide legal advice. Users should obtain legal advice if they are unsure whether they may create, publish, share, or use a chart, lyric, arrangement, metadata item, or other content.

Service Availability

chordwright is provided as an online service and may change over time. Features may be updated, paused, limited, or removed, and the service may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, security, provider issues, or technical problems.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. When changes are material, we will update the effective date and provide notice in a reasonable way, such as through the site, account experience, or another appropriate product channel.
